“My China
Bohemia” is a
cinéma vérité
documentary
about
contemporary
China through
the eyes of the
new generation
of artists.
The film follows
three main
characters over
the course of
one year
(2005-2006). One
is the
documentarian,
Xiao Li Tan. The
second is a
singer/songwriter,
Linq Yim. The
third is a
performance
artist named
Shadow. The film
captures their
personal
everyday lives,
their artistic
growth and their
successes and
failures in
their careers.
It features
interviews with
some the
youngest and
most successful
visual artists
in China: Ou
Yang Chun, Tamen,
Han Ya Juan,
Zhang Peng, and
Cao Fei.
A new China is
revealed to the
audience through
intimate
portrayals of
these artists.
The film is a
new voice
in-the-making
set against the
backdrop of an
awe-inspiring
fast changing
China.
