365 Fifth Avenue (Corner of 34th Street), Manhattan

Objective: In order to promote the artistic visual talents, and to stimulate communication among CUNY students who are separated by the different campuses spread across the five boroughs, the CUNY Asian American Film Festival was created to provide a central location to display their creative works, and to network among colleagues involved in the same field of study.

On the evening of the festival, winners will be awarded in the following four categories: Documentary; Fiction; Experimental; and Music Video. Winning films will be screened after the award ceremony, and then followed by a Questions and Answers session with the winners.

Winner ($200) and runner-up prize ($100) awarded for each category:

1. Fiction
2. Documentary
3. Experimental
4. Music Video (New Category)

Artist submitting must be a current undergraduate or graduate student at the City University of New York.

The film submission must satisfy at any one of the following to criteria:

  • Production involving at least one Asian personnel (Director, Producer, Writer, Cinematographer, or Actors)

  • Asian American theme (Cultural, Familial, Social, or Political)

  • Asian related topics (East, South & West Asia, and the Pacific Islands)

Length of the film is limited to twenty minutes or less.

All work must be submitted on Mini-DV format and SP mode.

Limit of one entry per person.

All work must include the credits of all the people working on the project.

All entries must be accompanied with submission form.

Artist must be available to attend the Film Festival on the evening of Friday, May 24, 2007.

Artist can pick up their entries at the festival.  After the festival, all remaining entries will be discarded unless there is a separate agreed arrangement.

* AAARI is a non-profit organization whose mission is to become an intellectual and cultural center for Asian and Asian American communities.  Selected works will only be shown strictly at functions where AAARI participates.  All work shown will include artist's credits.
