Place: CUNY Graduate Center - Martin E. Segal Theatre
365 Fifth Avenue, Manhattan (Corner of 34th Street)

Objective: In order to promote the artistic visual talents, and to stimulate communication among CUNY students who are separated by the different campuses spread across the five boroughs, the CUNY Asian American Film / Media Festival was created to provide a central location to display their creative works, and to network among colleagues involved in the same field of study.

On the evening of the festival, winners will be awarded in the following three categories: Documentary; Fiction; and Experimental Film. Winning films will be screened after the award ceremony, and then followed by a Questions and Answers session with the winners.

Winner ($200) and runner-up prize ($100) awarded for each category:

1. Fiction
2. Documentary
3. Experimental

Submission Guideline

Submission Deadline: Friday, April 29, 2006

1. Artist must be a current undergraduate or graduate student at the City University of New York.

2. Submission must have an Asian or Asian American reference (at least one of the following requirements must be met):

  • Production involving at least one Asian personnel (For example: Director, Producer, Writer, Cinematographer, or Actors)
     

  • Have an Asian American theme (Cultural, Familial, Social, or Political)
     

  • Asian related topics (East, South & West Asia, and the Pacific Islands)

3. Length submission is limited to thirty minutes or less.

4. Work must be submitted on Mini-DV format and SP mode.

5. Limit of one submission per artist.

6. Work must include the credits of all the people working on the project.

7. Submission must be accompanied with signed entry form.

8. Artist must be available to attend the Film / Media Festival on the evening of Friday, May 19, 2006.

9. Artist can pick up their entries at the festival.  After the festival, all remaining entries will be discarded unless there is a separate agreed arrangement.

* AAARI is a non-profit organization whose mission is to become an intellectual and cultural center for Asian and Asian American communities.  Selected works will only be shown strictly at functions where AAARI participates.  All work shown will include artist's credits.
