The number of
existing CUNY
faculty members
in areas related
to Asian and
Asian American
communities, the
surging interest
of students in
these areas, and
the blossoming
Asian American
community in New
York City
provide the
dynamic
ingredients that
should make CUNY
an awesome rival
to any
university in
this country.
Unfortunately,
difficulty in
communication,
accentuated by
the physical
separation of
individual
campuses and a
lack of
infrastructure
that promote the
mastery of new
technology,
creation of
joint projects
and more
effective
distribution of
information,
have rendered
the total less
than its sum.
To remedy the
present
situation, the
New York City
Council has
provided a grant
to create a
technologically
sophisticated
environment
where faculty,
students, and
community
representatives
can get together
to share their
concerns on
issues relevant
to Asians and
Asian
Americans. In
addition to the
weekly lectures,
seminars and
conferences that
AAARI has held
successfully in
the past, a new
topic-oriented
talk show:
Intellectually
Speaking will be
established in
the coming
semester that
produces
programs
through
different mass
media, including
cable television
broadcasting,
instant
webcasting, and
ready online
retrieval by
streaming video
technology.

exciting new
addition and get
